vet/vetted/vetting: to subject (a person or animal) to a physical examination or checkup; to subject to expert appraisal or correction
With regard to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, this word has been pulled from relative obscurity by the liberal media looking to attack the VP hopeful and, in doing so, have overworked every derivative of
"vet" imaginable. I think NPR's even "invetting", pardon the pun, new forms of the word. Today, during lunch, I heard, "McCain's
vetters weren't thorough enough, so [we're]
re-vetting Palin's background."
Apparently, if your party does the research itself, it can be referred to as
in-vetting. However, if you're too busy to
vet the candidate yourself, you can employ someone to do it for you, called
out-vetting. If the candidate's info is transmitted electronically, it's an
e-vet. If the info is hand delivered via vehicle, it's a
cor-vet.
It's become humorous to me to hear how many reporters have repeatedly said something very close to "Gov. Palin's 17 year old daughter's pregnancy isn't an issue. It's a private family matter. But, if Gov. Palin had supported school sex-education, there is discussion whether her daughter might've avoided becoming pregnant."
Really? If it's not an issue, why have I heard "The Today Show", NPR, CNN, "MSDNC", repeat it over and over? I agree, it's not an issue...it sounds like an agenda to me. Rather than support her for what she stands for, the media seems to be
vetting Palin's 17 year old as much as they are the Governor herself. And every other parent in America has a firm grip on their 17 year old, right? It's enough to make me
regurgi-vet.
PS- My McCain/Palin stickers are in the mail.
