Voting...and venting frustration

The family planned on doing a little target practice while in PA last week. On the way to the range, we found ourselves stopped for a minute right in front of the county Obama headquarters. AF and I looked at each other and laughed about how his self-appointed presidential seal would make a good target. We then couldn't resist the opportunity to go in, ask for a window placard, and then brush their office dust from our feet as we left. The socialist, activist, yuppie, wannabe hippie, thin (hence forth referred to as SAYWHaT) guy inside excitedly greeted us with "Only 21 days left!" We grinned and, equally excited but for the other candidate, said "I know! Yay!"
SAYWHaT asked if we were involved in the campaign and it crossed my mind to say "No, we work three jobs, which is 2 more than the average Obama supporter's household." Instead, I said no, that we were dedicated Republicans. Confused, SAYWHaT said, "So you decided to come get an Obama sign?"
I couldn't bring myself to admit what we had in store for that sign and I could plainly see AF was BITING her lip to keep from yelling "We're NRA members and we're going to shoot your sign!!" So I said, "I, uh, I...collect them. Well, not really collect them, but I can't tell you what it's for."
SAYWHaT replied with a comment about the Bush administration and what it's done to the economy. I retorted that public and corporate greed was the reason for rampant bankruptcy, foreclosures, and ultimately the Wall St bailout.
SAYWHaT brought up the war in Iraq and what would McCain do if he were elected and AF couldn't stand it anymore. She busted her silence with "HE'D BOMB 'EM ALL! ALL OF THEM! HE'D SHUT THEM ALL DOWN, WIPE 'EM OUT, AND THEN COME HOME!"
In disbelief, SAYWHaT said, "I can't believe I'm hearing this from actual Americans." To which I replied that "Oh, we're more than that. We're Southerners!" (Ok, I didn't really say that last part, but in hindsight, it would've been a great closing.) So we parted ways and the photos below show the great amount of pleasure we took in practicing on our new target.

Last night, AF and I voted early and had no wait at all. This year, despite being 8 pages of offices and referendums to vote on, we were unfamiliar with very few. A couple weeks ago, we asked a trusted, conservative lawyer friend of ours to suggest the judicial candidates she recommends. (NC judges are elected, not appointed as Mom advised me about VA's judges.) AF and I both took our list into the booth and feel good about having done our part.
On our way to vote, I talked with Kristy briefly and her last few, rushed words were, "Don't vote Obama...if you hadn't heard!" Little did she know how NOT voting for Obama we were.

PS- This in no way represents our feeling toward Sen. Obama personally. We fully recognize the slim chance Sen. McCain has of winning election. We only found it amusing to take out our frustration regarding Obama's inexperience, misguided views, the setbacks to who knows how many social and economic areas that his administration will undoubtedly bring, the liberal justices he'll nominate to the Supreme Court, and finally, our frustration over John McCain's poor speaking ability and inability to clearly and thoroughly win a debate.

Poconos October 2008

Here are a few of the pics from our trip to the Poconos this year with Mom & Dad. Somehow, M&D avoided being in the majority of our pics, other than on our shooting expedition (which was
much like the S.S. Minnow's 3-hour tour). All those mid-PA back roads looked alike!
We stopped for pictures by Buttermilk Falls and found a great Steeler background inside Paolo's. Thanks, Mom & Dad, for sharing the villa with us again this year. We had a great time! By the way, I heard this morning's temp for Scranton was 28 deg. Sounds like we left just in time!
