ARGH! I cry "UNCLE!" I don't know what kind of Faustian deal you made, but you are now King of Fowler Nation.
How great is that photo of Dad as a pirate? AWESOMENESS!!!! My timbers are shivered!!!
And no worries about anyone thinking YOU are a stalker now that you have posted that horrible picture of my awkward adolescence! (Seriously, what is up with that? I look like some horrible Hobo Orphan with a misshapen head cruelly Photoshopped into the photo of a happy, good-looking family!)
Truly...take a look at it...who is the insane bespectacled stalker in the rear of that photo? Is she holding a knife? Throwing stars? Is she planning on kidnapping that adorable blonde baby from the All-American Family? Does she have designs on the lovely mother's necklace?
(It's like the photographer took one look at the hideous, amblyopic daughter and stuck her as far in the back as possible!)
Happy Birthday, Dad! Thanks for loving me, no matter how nerdly I am! Great pictures, Bro! How blessed I am to have such a first-rate family!
Russell, I am nonplussed...I simply don't know what to say. I do not remember several of these pictures, including the one in the raggedy tee-shirt for which I was so unprepared. The embarrassment factor just keeps ramping up! I must have been on mind-altering drugs because I do not remember being dressed up as a pirate. The Sam Houston picture was taken in Odessa, and the scraped nose was from playing football--shades of "Friday Night Lights." The year that you and I visited Odessa was the same year that they had closed down Sam Houston Elementary School. I attended it the first year that it opened. The picture of my taller friend and I in our goofy camping clothes reflects a fishing trip with a school chum named "Anthony." We were the same age; but about two years later, Anthony joined the Oklahoma National Guard at age 16, lying about his age. I do not remember that Boy Scout photo, but I did notice that I had on my cowboy boots and I remember having that patch sewn on my uniform. I made it to second class and patrol leader before ending my career as a Scout.
I can't thank you enough for the thoughtfulness in posting these pictures of your old man...including that great family photo that Kristy was objecting to. Personally, I thought it was the one family photo where each member looked great! We will look forward to seeing a similar family photo with you, Taylor, Amanda Faye, and a little guy on your lap with a big grin.
Your blog certainly made your dad's birthday a cool and memorable one.
My love and humble thanks,
Dad
